How to choose chandeliers, pendants & wall lights

  • Chandelier size

    A simple rule: add the room's length and width in feet, and that number in inches is a good chandelier width (for example, a 12 × 14 ft room suits about a 26-inch chandelier). Hang it high enough to clear heads, or over a dining table.

  • Bulbs for chandeliers

    Many chandeliers take E14 candle lamps; warm-white LED candle or filament lamps give the classic look with less heat.

  • Wall and staircase lights

    Up-down and step lights add depth to walls and make stairs safe at night. For balconies and outside walls, choose a fitting with an IP rating of IP54 or higher.

  • Mirror lights

    IP44-rated mirror lights are made for bathrooms and vanity areas.
